With the current violent protest that have spread across America in just the matter of days, this whole thing is starting to feel all too familiar. In fact, it is starting to feel exactly like the summer of 2016, which as I’m sure you know, was also an election year.
If Google Trends is any measure of interest in a topic, whether organic or not, it suggests that for whatever reason we are seeing an almost exact repeat of the summer of 2016 when racially charged protests spread across the country.
Below is a graph showing Black Lives Matter as a topic early in the summer of 2016. As you can see, it shows a sudden spike in the early summer as protests materialized out of nowhere and the media fanned the flames of racial division.
Next we see data from this year. Of course the ending date is earlier as we haven’t yet entered June and July. But as you can see, the trend is starting to look exactly as it did in 2016.
As you can see there is an almost identical spike at the beginning of the summer for each election year.
It almost goes without saying that what happened to George Floyd was a complete injustice and that the officers involved should face swift justice. On this aspect there is virtually no debate around the country and from people of all walks of life. However, the protests have spread so fast, and in a manner so similar to 2016, one must start to question if they are truly organic.
On Saturday’s Fox and Friends broadcast, Georgia Congressman Barry Loudermilk echoed these suspicions. Having formerly worked in the intelligence community, he stated that the speed at which the protests spread across the country suggests they were orchestrated and that an investigation will need to be done.
Back in 2016, Black Lives Matters received over $30 million from “philanthropist” George Soros and his Open Society Foundation. Soros is well known for funding divisive cultural movements around the globe, not just in America. Combined with other grants, Black Lives Matters had a war chest of over $100 million going into the 2016 election.
Now in 2020, we are seeing a repeat as protests suddenly explode all over the country and are suspiciously well organized.
After the 2016 election, interest in Black Lives matter basically became non-existent according to Google Trends. The protests died down soon after, and they essentially went dormant until this past week as protests and internet search traffic surged in a way that is all too similar to 2016.
